Police Trains Officers on Digital Security Awareness, Others

The Nigeria Police Force is prioritising digital security training for its men as part of efforts to boost their capacity in criminal investigation.

This flows from a directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on the necessity to equip police personnel with specialised skills essential for effective investigation and prosecution.

The Kano State Police Command, yesterday took up the initiative by facilitating one of such trainings, targeting its men in the Criminal Investigation Department.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the initiative aims to create a well-trained and motivated police force capable of tackling modern-day security challenges.

Digital security awareness, integrity in policing duties, and professionals were major themes that resonated at the training.

Key presentations at the training included “Eliminating Corruption in the NPF,” by Assistant Commissioner of Police CID, ACP Muhammad Wada Jarma; “Extortion and Other Unethical Conduct,” by ACP Mohammed B. Suleiman of the X-Squad; and “Cyber-security Awareness,” presented by Mr. Jessy John from the Cyber-Safe Youth Initiative Organisation.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, while urging the police participating officers to make the best use of the opportunity, he also praised the resource persons for their availability to share knowledge.

“This is not only a chance to learn but to refresh your knowledge and embrace new developments in the field,” CP Bakori said.

A highpoint of the digital security training was the conferment of an award on CP Bakori by the Cyber-Safe Youth Initiative.

The youth initiative said the award was for his outstanding efforts in promoting digital security within the force.

“This award will further motivate our resolve to confront emerging security challenges and reinforce our commitment to protecting citizens in the digital age”, an appreciative CP said.

He in turn, dedicated the award to the officers and men of the Command, informing that similar training initiatives would be held periodically across all departments to adapt to the dynamic nature of policing in today’s society.

It is expected at the end of the day, that the policing capacity of officers at the command, especially with relevance to investigations, would have been boosted by the trainings.
