Police Inspector In Soup After Being Filmed Collecting N40, 000 Bribe

The resolve to exploit the prevailing challenging situation in the country to a personal gain may have landed a police inspector in deep trouble.

He has been caught on camera collecting bribe from a motorist who allegedly breached the lcokdown order by driving on the streets of Lagos.

News monitored by The Eagle reporter shows that the incident which happened on Friday, April 10 at Ago Palace Road Okota, involved a police inspector in the Okota axis of Lagos, whose name tag gave away as ‘Taloju Martins.

An under-cover video by the motorist showed the officer counting N1000 notes, allegedly totaling 40 pieces.

Report have it that the money was a ‘ransom’ paid by an unidentified motorist, possibly the fellow who broke the video, to free his vehicle, but it is not yet established whether he just wanted to get back at the inspector or motivated to stem what is increasingly becoming rampant.

What is however obvious is that the motorist had ran foul of prevailing order by the government for people to stay indoors as a way of stemming the coronavirus.

The background was that the policeman had seized the man’s car and in his bid to free it, he had to part with some money.

Our correspondent learnt that the driver told to pay N50, 000 to get his car back, but he pleased to be allowed to pay N40,000.

The video on the controversial transaction which was posted by @RuggedyBaba, a Nigerian entertainer, and the incident has been confirmed by Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana.

The police spokesman however said the police high command would try the police officer in line withl laid-down procedures of the police force, and if found guilty appropriately sanctioned.

“We have seen the video and the inspector has been arrested. An investigation has commenced. He will be subjected to internal disciplinary proceeding known as Orderly Room Trial,” Elkana was quoted as telling a Punch reporter.
