‘Please Leave Us Out Of Your Proposed Biafran Nation’
If the promoters of a Biafran nation thought that they have the support of as many other ethnic groups as possible, the they must be joking
The Igala People for a start have made it clear that they are not part of any Biafran nation, as attested to by the Igala Youth Council.
It said the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) should desist from referring or referencing the Igala ethnic stock as being part of the proposed United States of Biafra
They issued the disclaimer in a statement circulated to journalists in Lokoja, Kogi State.
“This strong stance was taken during an emergency meeting held on December 1, 2024, in response to a viral video outlining IPOB’s plan for a 40-state Biafran nation,” the statement noted.
“The Igala nation demands good governance for all its people within the Nigerian nation, rather than being dragged into IPOB’s madness.
“It’s worth noting that IPOB’s actions have been a subject of controversy, with some viewing their agitation as a legitimate cry for self-determination, while others see it as a threat to national unity.

“The group’s methods, including the imposition of a weekly ‘sit-at-home’ order, have been criticised for their disruptive impact on the economy and daily life in the Southeast region.”
The statement which was signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Michael Joshua, also called on Igala across the globe to ignore IPOB group and go about their lawful business in Nigeria.
The Eagle findings show that even many from core Igbo states are opposed to the way and manner that the group has been going about the course.
Our correspondent was in the group of journalists who interacted with Igbo elder statesman in the heat of the agitation, Major General Umahi (rtd) and he shared the same sentiments.
According to him, the real spirit of Biafra is the spirit of a conducive and peaceful atmosphere for enterprise to survive, and not the spirit of separatism.
Referencing with IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, he had said: So, i do not know the credibility Nnamdi Kanu was enjoying.
“If you check, the elites of Igboland, were never with Nnamdi Kanu; they were never with him. it is only the people grossly uneducated, many unemployed who cannot differentiate A from B that were with him. That is why they can kill easily, and they are not open to opposing views”.
