Plateau Ready For APC Presidential Campaign Flag-Off, Says Lalong

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaigns will today, Tuesday, begin in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

THEEAGLE gathered that heavy security were presence in the state capital on Monday, with a long convoy of military vehicles seen patrolling the streets and blaring sirens, while some roads were being repaired in preparation for the rally.

The Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos, where the campaign flag-off would take place today, was inspected by the state governor of the APC, Simon Lalong, who also serves as the director general of the organization.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima, his running mate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President, the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and APC governors were among those who spoke during the inspection. The governor noted that the city of Jos and Plateau State were already abuzz as APC supporters and residents prepared to receive the Chairman of the PCC and President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said that a lot of work had been put in by the Local Organizing Committee, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Sonni Tyoden.

According to Lalong, “The history is very clear, and God is writing this history himself. Anybody who is declared here goes on to win the presidential elections. We know of Abiola and Obasanjo. Asiwaju is also going the same way because we have been blessed. I am very impressed with the show of hospitality and excitement among the citizens who are ready to receive the victory of the APC.”

Unusual Move As Gbajabiamila Suspends Plenary

The House of Representatives, in an unusual move, decided to postpone its meeting until Wednesday.

Naturally, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are when the Senate and the House convene.

To allow its committees to hold budget defense meetings with government ministries, departments, and agencies over their proposals in the 2023 appropriations bill, the House delayed plenary on October 12, 2022, for four weeks, until November 15.

But on Thursday, Yahaya Danzaria, the Clerk of the House, sent out a notification requesting that legislators meet again on Monday.

On Monday, Gbajabiamila and the Clerk swore in Muhammad Alkali as the new representative for the Plateau State district of Bassa/Jos-North.

Also, the Speaker read three letters from President Muhammadu Buhari to the audience, including one that sought to change both the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and the budgets for the Niger Delta Development Commission and the Federal Capital Territory.

Without the parliamentarians taking up the topics on the order paper for the day, the session was adjourned till Wednesday.

Although the House and the Speaker withheld official information behind the adjustment, sources within the chamber connected it to the APC presidential campaign rally that would start on Tuesday and was anticipated to draw party insiders and supporters of Tinubu.

Gbajabiamila, however, adjourned the meeting on Monday due to commotion in the chamber.

Throughout the roughly hour-long proceeding, the Majority Whip, Mohammed Monguno, made several unsuccessful attempts to summon the members to order.

Notably, a previous minor drama occurred after Alkali took the oath of office.

Musa Agah of the Peoples Democratic Party was replaced by Alkali of the Peoples Redemption Party.

The PRP legislator was invited by Gbajabiamila to the flag-off of the ruling APC presidential rally in Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday after Alkali was sworn in. The Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, did not appreciate the invitation.

“The demonstration for the president has begun in Plateau State, according to the ruling party. The Speaker had stated that you were more than welcome to join us.

That would entail saying farewell to Babatunde Alli, the party’s secretary, and Kola Abiola, the PRP’s presidential candidate, who were both watching the proceedings from the gallery.

Elumelu, however, filed a point of order to object to the Speaker’s political behavior while overseeing the House caucuses.

Alkali might feel threatened by Gbajabiamila, he further claimed.

The Minority Leader was declared out of order by the Speaker after he claimed Elumelu was “crying more than the bereaved” and a “meddlesome interloper.”
