PDP, LP, ADC Demand Resignation Of INEC Chairman, Cancellation Of Results

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, has been called upon to resign by the People’s Democracy Party, Labour Party, and African Democratic Congress, ADC.

At a joint press conference held by the major parties on Tuesday in Abuja, the demand was made.

The National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu said, “All those, who are supporting us across Nigeria will get justice. Democracy may sound very expensive, it’s certainly not cheap. But if we think it’s expensive try dictatorship, you will see the cost. 

“We don’t want INEC to turn itself to a dictatorship and destroy the very democracy we’ve suffered or laboured for or built the last 20 something years,” he added. 

Julius Abure, the national chairman of the Labour Party, stated that neither the parties nor all Nigerians could afford to choose the wrong leaders.

According to him, “What we are doing now is what our member want and the yearnings of Nigerians. What we are doing is also a due process.

“The cost will be high but that’s part of the sacrifices we need to make now. The cost of bad governance is higher than electing bad leaders,” he added.

Recall that on Monday, representatives from the main opposition parties protested the exercise by leaving the national collation center in Abuja.

The INEC was accused of breaking the Electoral Act by Dino Melaye and Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for proceeding with the result collation and announcement while failing to upload the results to the iREV platform.
