Payback Time: APC Compiles List To Reward Members Who Worked

It is obviously payback time for members who worked within the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the last general elections.
Taking a cue from what is happening at the centre since President Bola Tinubu took over leadership, APC states have been consolidating with appointments of loyalists to key positions.
In Cross River State, the party is compiling a list of such loyal members.
A press statement from the party titled “Ward Nomination for Appointment and Empowerment” through which the party intends to compensate royalty, and signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Erasmus Ekpang, it is asking chapters to submit names of members who worked for the party’s success for appointment into positions.

“Therefore, the State Chairman, Mr Alphonsus Eba has directed all party Ward Executives, Ward leaders and major Stakeholders of the party to meet on Sunday 2nd July, 2023 at 4:00pm either physically or by zoom to come up with 20 names from each ward as follows:
“Only persons who worked sincerely for the victory of the party in the Presidential, Senatorial, House of Representatives, Governorship and State Assembly elections with evidence of their results will be finally considered by the Party in consonance with the Party’s “Monkey work, Monkey chop” mantra.

“Youths, students, farmers, business men and women with political capital who invested same in the last election towards the party’s victory should please be nominated as most of them will be considered for empowerment even if they are not literate enough to be considered for appointment.”
By the statement, a meeting of the party at ward levels are currently ongoing in the state.
The Eagle reports that the move by the party is expected to enable it consolidate governance, given the epic battle that it fought to be able win the gubernatorial election in the state.
Expectedly, a similar scenario – payback time – is playing out in different other states of the federation.
