Our Country Needs More Brave Women Like You  -Lieutenant General

A Lieutenant General has saluted two women for their acts of bravery.

He simply told them, our country needs more brave women like you. Who are the women and what feat did they perform to attract such a commendation?

They summoned courage to report their husbands who were having carnal knowledge of their biological daughters, one aged thirteen and the other, just eight.

The salutation came from provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, a neigbourhood on the eastern side of South Africa, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela to the two women because they summoned bravery and reported their husbands who were abusing their biological daughters.

She said South Africa needed more such parents who don’t look away.

“We really need mothers that will blow the whistle and not tolerate such types of crime in the name of love at the expense of innocent children,” said Manamela.

In one case, a 42-year-old man from Bethal allegedly raped his 13-year-old biological daughter.

The man is expected back at the Bethal Magistrate’s Court to submit a formal bail application, following his accuse last Tuesday.

The Family, Violence, Child protection and Sexual Offences unit had effected his arrest following allegations that he was sexually victimizing the girl last September 2023

The abuse led to the girl becoming pregnant and upon learning of that, the suspect threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

The man went further to offer her money to secure her silence.

 “Later that day, the stepmother approached the victim to ask her about the pregnancy and that is when she broke her silence and (revealed that) her father is the suspect,” said Mdhluli.

“The brave stepmother reportedly informed the girl’s biological mother, then the matter was eventually reported to the police. The case was assigned to the FCS unit which conducted the investigation.”

A worse case involved a 35-year-old man from Balfour, allegedly raped his stepdaughter aged eight. The case was heard at the Balfour Magistrate’s Court, according to Mpumalanga provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli.

The facts of the matter was that the mother of the victim, who is also the spouse to the suspect, discovered this shocking news on Sunday, January 14 after noticing her companion with the minor’s underwear. It is said that she confronted him about it, of which he denied any wrongdoing.”

The report carried in the Zambian Observer added that the girl’s mother showed concern and was able to extract the truth from the girl.

The abuse had been on since last year, it was discovered.

It was in reference to these two cases that the provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela declared: ‘Our country needs more brave women like you’
