‘Only Jesus Christ Can Perform Miracles’ – ESL CEO Slammed By Tebas

Javier Tebas made a playful jab at the CEO of the European Super League regarding the idea to broadcast games for free.

The team behind the Super League, A22, has put out a new plan that would see three tiers with promotion and relegation in response to a verdict by the European Court of Justice that declared it “unlawful” for FIFA and UEFA to exclude players from competing in a breakaway league. More significantly, A22 CEO Bernd Reichart declared that all competition matches will be free to watch.

Although Real Madrid and Barcelona are still in favour of the Super League, Tebas reiterated his composure and stated that any efforts to create a new league would be met with rejection.

Speaking to reporters, Tebas said: “The miracle of the loaves and fishes was done by Jesus Christ, not by Bernd Reichart (CEO of A22). There will be no Super League in the short, medium or long term. Legally, it’s not going to be possible. It’s economically unsustainable. Free football is impossible, it would be an economic failure. You can’t fool people by saying that football is going to be free. I bet 100 dinners that we will not see it in the coming years. And a thousand dinners that it won’t be free.”

The Super League’s basic principles are in opposition to what is stated in the FIFA and UEFA charters, Tebas went one step further and made fun of Reichart for drinking till five in the morning.

He wrote on X: “To be clear, there are no doubts and some mistakenly go to reopen the bar to drink cubas until 5 in the morning as Bern Reichart CEO seems to have been tonight.

“The CJEU says that the rules for admission of FIFA and UEFA competitions are transparent, but not that they must admit the Super League. On the contrary, it points out that the criteria for admission to competitions must be transparent, objective and non-discriminatory. Principles are precisely incompatible with the Super League.”

Major football teams including Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid have chosen not to participate in the proposed competition, which originally had 12 clubs. In a statement, the Premier League also rejected the Super League. It is now unclear if Real Madrid and Barcelona will have to retract their statements in light of the European Court’s decision, as the clubs and leagues continue to oppose the European Super League.
