Yes, things you need, not what you want

Needs are essential, in fact crucial to life.

You can’t handle feebly, anything central to your survival, rather at that material time, you give it your all, in the conviction that there might never be another opportunity to try.

However, giving your all, does not imply desperate and selfish pursuit that ignores and jettisons all rules on decency and godliness.

It is about sitting down, reflectivity agreeing on values and attainments that would add total value to your life, while also helping to lift society: sitting down to work out strategies of accomplishing.

We are thus opposed to lackadaisical attitude to things; the “,as usual” attitude when the matter at hand requires serious engagement.

Serious-minded strikers for example are those who do not want to believe that scoring opportunities would always come; they would rather stake all, including risking injuries to convert the one chance that has presented itself, and most times, they succeed. A few years ago, Mathematics was holding me down from processing university admission.

I had worked for some years and had some exposure, and not really one rookie waiting on Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) alone.

But I needed Mathematics and had to go enrol at a coaching centre at Akoka Yaba.

Critical and proud me, I was too fixated that the teacher for Mathematics didn’t speak too “much  English”, that I began to harbour dissentient for him

Arrogant me! what has competence in solving syllabus-based Mathematics got to do with knowing and speaking impressive English? I was almost going to through the centre as of ritual before some reality hit me.

Come on, you are here to be taught Mathematics in a way to clear mathematics, and clear Mathematics you must.

Did the guy know Maths?, Yes. Is he teaching it well? For God’s sake, yes. So, what’s your problem?

I had to come to myself, and though his manner of reiteration could sometimes get into one’s nerves, I chose to give deaf ears to that, resolving I had brought out that time for the subject and must forebear everything else to obtain Mathematics; that was what happened.

So, one of the things that will deliver you this year, is that you rid your self of arrogance.

Sit down and do your prognosis. Agree on what each need would require, and work out how to give just that.

It might be patience, tolerance, discipline, words of commendations: it could even be fasting-backed prayer; whichever pay the price and get the trophy, afterwards you can play. One of the things that will deliver you this year is that you are willing to give to each occasion what it requires to aid your next move up.
