Omojuyigbe Urges Govt to Fund Private Varsities, Reduce Publishing Costs

The Government has been urged to take up the responsibility of funding private tertiary institutions to further enrich the quality of education in Nigeria.

This call was made by the Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Dr. Dele Omojuyigbe, during the public presentation of his new book, “NIJ’s Inside Story…from my lenses, the beaut, the bend”, on Wednesday 7,2024.

The event, which was held at the institute’s auditorium in Ogba Lagos, was graced by colleagues, friends and students. Dr. Omojuyigbe urged the government to put policies in place aimed at reducing the cost of book production to ease the pains of publishers and authors.

This, he believes, would further deepen the production of relevant titles and the culture of reading in the country.

The motivation behind his book, Dr. Omojuyigbe explained, was the lack of a complete narrative documenting the rich history of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism

He felt this history should not be left undocumented, hence the authorng the book.Reviewer of the book, Dr. Khadijat Adedeji-Olona of the School of Communications at Lagos State University commended the work as a “captivating masterpiece” that narrates the NIJ’s journey, its challenges and triumphs, and acknowledges the significant individuals and organizations involved in its evolution.

She appreciated the opportunity to review such a book from the pen of a passionate educator and seasoned wordsmith, whose expertise spans both the newsroom and classroom.

She praised the author for his painstaking recollection of events and attention to details, which she believed were formed through years of diligent journaling.

A skill set now rare amongst today’s practitioners. Among those who graced the occasion we’re the Provost of the Institution, Mr Gbenga Adefaye, the Registrar, Mrs Patricia Kalesanwo members of faculty, chairman of the NIJ alumni, Dr Olusanya Awosan, practitioners in the industry and students. .
