Okoh, BPE Director-General Sets Six-Point Agenda

Mr Alex Okoh, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has set up a six-point agenda aimed at consolidating his achievements.

He was recently reappointed for another term of four years, by the President Muhammadu Buhari, following what industry operators perceive as his impressive performance.

The six-point agenda has as major element, working towards encouraging more private sector operators to invest in critical sectors of the Nigerian economy through Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).

Okoh who was speaking for the first time since his re-appointment said the Federal Government had simplified the PPP process which now allowed private sector players to scout for projects to be financed through the PPP model.

He said his administration would also prioritise completion of all ongoing reform and privatisation activities of the Bureau, carry out all other transactions that are  scheduled for reforms and privatisation in the Privatisation and Commercilaisation Act 1999 of the BPE;, as well as ensure passage of all reform bills pending before the National Assembly.

Other areas include ensuring  robust engagement with all  relevant stakeholders, and deepening the core values of the Bureau by ensuring, integrity& transparency, team-work, accountability and professionalism.

A release signed by the bureau’s Head of Public Communications, Amina Tukur Othman said the DG has declared immediately putting in place, a template to further reinvigorate the Bureau’s activities and step up efforts towards revving up enterprises due for either reforms or privatisation.

 “In all our transactions, transparency and accountability will continue to be our watch word. It is also an opportunity for the country to witness increased activities in our mandate which will lead to more job opportunities for our teeming youth and increased revenue for the Federal Government”, he stated.

 Okoh thanked the President, Muhammadu Buhari and the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo who is also the Chairman of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) for finding him worthy of re-appointment, noting that it was an evidence of the confidence both of them repose in him to lead the privatisation agency.

He promised to re-double his efforts in the next four years to recreate and reinvent the Bureau to become the top most reform agency in the world.

The bureau is at the centre of the federal government’s privatization exercises particularly and had done well thus far, is enhancing the business space for operators.
