‘NYSC, Security Agencies Unconcerned About My Kidnapped Corper-Daughter’

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the security agencies have been accused of not doing enough to secure release of a kidnapped corper.

Emmanuel Etteh, father to a kidnapped corper made the allegation, after over two weeks of the incident, and with the security agencies failing to secure the realse of the girl and the other kidnapped corpers.

The Eagle reports that the said lady’s enthusiasm to go serve her fatherland in the mandatory one year NYSC momentarily turned sour on transit.

She was in the company of eight others, en route from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to their NYSC orientation camp in Sokoto before they were abducted by gunmen.

The company were in an Akwa Ibom Transport Corporation (AKTC) bus when the unthinkable happened,Saturday, August 19.

Their case has since riverated across the country with many urging the federal government to act fast and rescued the corpers. .

While featuring on Sunrise Daily, a popular live programme of platform of Channels Television, bemoaned the fate that had befallen his daughter and her colleagues.

He also expressed his disappointment that the NYSC and the security agencies have remained unconcerned about the kidnap over two weeks after.

“Every activity is going on, and I keep on asking, ‘Is this a type of government we want for our country? Is this the type of security we can feel safer with?’ NYSC invited these children out of their homes to Sokoto.”

 “It is very devastating because, as a parent, I am very disappointed by the government. No one has been talking about or asking questions since this incident happened.

“Security agencies are not caring, NYSC leadership shows no concern, and everyone behaves as if nothing happened:, Mr Etteh further lamented.

The Eagle further reports a Professor of the Department of Counselling and Human Development Studies, University of Ibadan, Rotimi Animasahun as describing the current state of insecurity in the country as a major obstacle to the success of the NYSC.

Speaking on the occasion of the celebration of the 50 years anniversary of the NYSC at the Multi-Purpose Hall, NYSC State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, he particularly expressed disappointment with the Director General, in the manner of handling the corps.
