What on earth is happening to our world? How come evil appears to be multiplying by the day, and people seem not to have the remotest string of remorse embarking on the worst kind of evil.

How would even a care-giver and life-sustainer turn round to become human terror, unleashing hate on innocent and defenseless bundles of joy in a serial fashion?

Questions, questions and more questions, but problem, is, it would not bring back the lives of seven babies whose innocent lives have been terminated via lethal injection, by a medic employed to nurture them to life.

32 year old Lucy Letby, who works at the neo-natal ward of the Countess of Chester Hospital, would obviously be in good stead to respond to some or all of these questions.

She stands accused of injecting babies with insulin and air in a year-long killing spree.

Now described as a “constant malevolent presence”, the Manchester Crown court, has been told how between 2015 and 2016, two babies on the neo-natal unit were “deliberately” poisoned with insulin, which was “no accident”, in cases linked to her

She allegedly murdered seven babies and attempted killing ten others and now the bubble has burst on her.

The court also heard that the collapses and deaths of all 17 children in the case were not “naturally-occurring tragedies”, according to a report in The Sun

Jurors also heard how some of the other babies were killed or harmed when air was injected into their bloodstream or via a tube in their stomachs.

Further, it was revealed how, in some cases, Letby allegedly took up to three attempts before she managed to kill some of her victims.

In a particularly noteworthy case, the report added, a baby was allegedly murdered less than 90 minutes after he was handed into the nurse’s care.

Prosecutor Nick Johnson KC while opening the case, reportedly said: “They were all the work, we say, of the woman in the dock, who we say was the constant malevolent presence when things took a turn for the worse for these 17 children.”

Ironically, Letby, is said to be equipped with special training in caring for ICU babies, but she is accused of murdering five boys and two girls in a year-long killing spree.

She is also charged with the attempted murder of another five boys and five girls and in some cases, she is accused of attempting to kill a baby on multiple occasions.

A “pain-staking” probe was launched into the deaths and “serious catastrophic collapses” after a “significant” rise, it was said.

Jurors were told Letby was the “common denominator” among the deaths and collapses.

She was on duty when the two baby boys were poisoned almost a year apart on the “closely restricted” ward, it was said.

Both the boys – named in the court as Child F and Child L – survived thanks to the “skill of the medical staff” but only after their blood sugar allegedly “inexplicably dropped to dangerous levels”.

Describing the Countess of Chester Hospital, Mr Johnson said: “It’s a hospital like so many others in the UK.”But unlike many other hospitals in the UK and unlike many other neonatal units in the UK, within the neonatal unit in the Countess of Chester a poisoner was at work.”

The court also heard how post-January 2015, the number of baby deaths and catastrophic collapses at the hospital significantly rose.

“Babies who had not been unstable at all suddenly deteriorated. Sometimes a baby who had been sick but then been on the mend suddenly deteriorated for no apparent reason.

“Having searched for a cause, which they were unable to find, the consultants noticed that the inexplicable collapses and deaths did have one common denominator.

“The presence of one of the neo-natal nurses and that nurse was Lucy Letby.”

Letby denied all 22 charges, which are said to have taken place between June 2015 and June 2016, ahead of her trial today.
