Nottingham Forest Docked Four Points For Breaching PSR Rules

Nottingham Forest has been placed in the Premier League relegation zone after receiving a four-point deduction for breaking financial rules.

The Reds acknowledged the accusations made against them, but it is anticipated that they will file an appeal against the decision that has caused them to drop to the bottom three and lose ground on the standings with nine games remaining.

Forest hired a top sports lawyer to argue their case, with the sale of Brennan Johnson to Tottenham in the summer of 2023 forming part of that discussion. It is argued that a £47.5 million ($60m) deal there, which was completed after the June 30 deadline set by Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), made the Reds more sustainable as they generated a higher transfer fee than that originally offered by Brentford.

The Premier League has penalised points for those accusations, which have been met with disinterest. Clubs are permitted to lose £105 million ($134 million) during a three-year period; however, because Nottingham Forest played in the Championship for two of those years, their account balance was just £61 million ($78 million).

After winning promotion and making their first-ever 23-year return to the Premier League, they had to make significant spending commitments—42 players were bought in the interim. Everton, who also suffered a points deduction this season while awaiting the outcome of more allegations against them, is being held accountable for their display of ambition.
