Nigeria Saw The Worst Phase Of Corruption Under Buhari Administration – Kukah

Nigeria saw the worst phase of corruption under the administration of Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari.

So says a cleric and national affairs commentator, Bishop Mathew Kuka.

Kukah who is the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, released the bombshell today at Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital where he delivered a lecture.

Speaking at the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the call to bar of the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), Rev Kukah said even another national commentator and lawyer, Femi Falana who was at the event could provide more insight into his assertion.

Kukah’s lecture was titled “The future of constitutional democracy in Nigeria: Imperative of a new constitutional order”, and he said that although the malaise predated the Buhari administration, but that it blossomed during it.

“We have seen the worst phase of corruption in Nigeria. Femi Falana, my friend here, will speak about that because he has published a series of articles talking about what happened under the Buhari administration.

Urging the Federal Government to truly uphold the principles of democracy in governance, he said it should avoid sentiments, as that would not help the country’s development course.

Rev Kukah also said the Nigerian judiciary, especially at the Supreme Court needed men of integrity.

“Nigeria needs to grow democratically and developed politically. Every federal institution must reflect what Nigeria should reflect all over the country. The country should stop reinforcing inequality. There must be sanctions and consequences for those who go against our democracy and the constitution of the land for us to have a better society”.

The Eagle reports that the cleric’s message during the last Christmas celebrations also alluded to his current position that Nigeria saw the worst phase of corruption under Buhari.

He had said: “It is sad that despite your lofty promises, you are leaving us far more vulnerable than when you came, that the corruption we thought would be fought has become a leviathan and sadly, a consequence of a government marked by nepotism,”

“Clearly, in almost every department and with all indicators, our nation has become a tale of two cities. We have wars between the rich and the poor, men and women, across generations, along party lines, social classes, religion, ethnicity and so on. The centre has given up in almost every department,” he wrote in the Christmas message.
