But it is not total gloom: weather forecasts foresee warm weather later in the week, the same in  “ Buffalo, which has endured brutal conditions with hurricane-force winds and snow that has triggered whiteouts and paralyzed emergency response efforts”, the report added.

A 24 hour rail ordeal is least anyone would expect on Christmas eve but that was what it offered to some travelers from Ottawa to Toronto.

These were passengers on Train 55, who probably had hopes of getting to their destination on time, but all that was knocked off by the winter storm, according to reports by National Post.

It was not just the winter that the journey had to cope with, but also a falling tree also get in the way shattering the window of the locomotive forcing it to a stop.

Passengers were left to the chargrin of the weather, the unhealthy atmosphere that the bathrooms became after prolonged use, coupled with the fact that many had not envisaged the long delay and had not made enough food and personal medical provisions.

According to National Post, the passengers had to call 911 for help, given the precarious position of the diabetic patients and also that of a nursing mother.
