Naira One Of World’s Strongest Currencies, CBN Announces

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has come up boldly for the national currency, the Naira, declaring it as one of the strongest currencies in the world.

It added Nigerians, should as a matter of consequence handle the Naira with integrity.

A senior official from the CBN’s Currency Operations Department, Paul Onuoha, stated this in the midst of an interactive session amidst a sensitisation fair on identifying counterfeit notes stated:

“Naira is one of the strongest currencies in the world when it comes to security features,” Onuoha said, as he demonstrated practical techniques for spotting fake notes.

The fair, ran under the theme: “Driving Alternative Payment Channels as Tools for Financial Inclusion, Growth and Accelerated Economic Development”.

Also speaking, Acting Director of the CBN’s Corporate Communications Department, Hakama Sidi-Ali, issued a warning against misuse of the currency:

“We also urge you to preserve the dignity of our currency by avoiding abuse.

Do not spray, hawk, mutilate, or counterfeit the naira. Respect and keep it clean,” she said.

According to her, the CBN under the leadership of Governor Olayemi Cardoso, remained focused on delivering its statutory functions, all of which are expected to make the naira one of the strongest currencies.

Key sectors which were represented at the forum included financial technology, financial institutions, real sector and trader unions.
