The amount is staggering, N9,687,830,000.00, an approximate of 23 Million dollars stolen from the national treasury by past governments, but it is about to be repatriated by the United States of America.
Major culprit in the stealing of the money, according to reports in the Punch, is late General Sani Abacha but an agreement by the Federal Government with the government of the US would see this money being returned to the country.
The agreement was signed today, by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on behalf of the Federal Government, while the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, signed for the government of the United States.
The United States government and that of Britain were praised by the AGF for making the return possible.
Malami in his speech also added that the money would be used in the infrastructural development of the country.
