N10 Billion Palliative Disbursement Committee Inaugurated By Ministry

N10 billion palliative – The Federal Ministry of Transport has set up a committee to work on the disbursement formula for the N10 billion palliative money from the Federal government.

The committee was set up by the Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki.

A statement issued by Eric Ojiekwe, Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Transportation, credits the minister as advising unions in the transport sector to interface and collaborate so that the sharing would be equitably done.

The minister spoke during a courtesy call in Abuja by the immediate past National President and the incumbent National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Najumdeen Yasin, and Prof. Tajudeen Ibikunle Lawal respectively.

Members of the committee are drawn from the Ministry of Transportation and all other relevant stakeholders in the transportation sector.

First, she congratulated the new President of NURTW before urging him to work with all sundry so that he would have the right atmosphere to work.

Saraki also appreciated the fact that the sector had continued to thrive through sheer efforts on the part of members.

The former President, Alhaji Yasin, who spoke earlier, said he was at the ministry to officially present to the minister the new National President of the Union as well advise her to disregard the numerous associations posing as representatives of road transport workers and operators.

He said the NURTW had existed for 21 years and was the only recognised representative of road transport workers” in the country.

In a related development yesterday, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) said its members made donations worth N8 billion in cash and N300million worth of palliative materials to both Federal and States Governments during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Mansur Ahmed, President of MAN, made this known at the 48th Annual General Meeting of the association in Lagos.
