Muhammadu Buhari: Cause of Exit Still Controversial, Tinubu Reacts

Immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday exited this world, with the cause of death still a subject of contemplation.

His former spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, who confirmed the former general’s transition, said it happened yesterday at a hospital in the United Kingdom.

“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.

“May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus.”

Buhari died at 82, a member of a rare class of office holders, who served as both military head of State and civilian president.

After serving as military Head of State 1984 and August 1985, he returned to contest election as civilian president in 2015.

He defeated incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan who had served out the term of his principal,

However, in his reaction to the death of predecessor, President Bola Tinubu described late Muhammadu Buhari as a very core, a patriot, a soldier, a statesman, whose legacy of service and sacrifice endures.

He also directed that all national flags be flown at half-staff

A statement issued by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga stated thus: ” As a mark of respect to our former leader, I have directed that all national flags fly at half-staff across the country for seven days from today,” Tinubu stated.

“We honour his service. We reflect on his legacy. And we pray for the peaceful repose of his soul.

“As a mark of respect to our former leader, I have directed that all national flags fly at half-staff across the country for seven days from today.

“I have also summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council session on Tuesday, dedicated to his honour.

“The Federal Government will accord President Buhari full state honours befitting his towering contributions to our country.

“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.

“And may his life continue to inspire generations of Nigerians to serve with courage, conviction, and selflessness,” the statement reads in part.

However, the exact cause of the president’s death has remained a subject of contemplation

While some has suggested age-related illnesses, others have gave indication of ill-health connected with blood contamination.

A particular medium recently said the former president had leukemia

Earlier in July, the Digital Media aide to former late Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, had also refuted widespread media reports suggesting that Buhari’s health condition had worsened and that he had been admitted into an Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

“In light of the recent media reports suggesting that former President Muhammadu Buhari is critically ill and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), we find it necessary to set the record straight,” the statement partly read.

“It is true that former President Buhari is unwell and is currently receiving medical attention.

“However, contrary to the exaggerated claims circulating in the media, he is stable and responding well to treatment, and we are optimistic about his full recovery,” he had stated.
