‘Military, Come And Investigate These Brutalisations, Please’

Allegations of brutalisations of civilians in Warri, Delta State, is not going down well with some quarters in Nigeria.

In consequence, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is urging the Military High Command to commence an extensive investigation into the matter.

The alleged assault happened in the course of  the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Condemning the action, on Friday in Abuja in a statement, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan said that such acts of violence against  citizens could not be condoned or justified under any guise whatsoever.

Ologbondiyan said that the alleged Warri killing and the reported brutalisation of Nigerians, would have been averted if advice for adequate provisions for social palliatives were adhered to.

He advised government to shelve political interests and heed good suggestions to implement calls to cut taxes and reduce fuel price

The Eagle reports that the publicity secretary also called on the government to use the states and local governments to channel essential commodities to poor Nigerians whose means of survival comes only from their daily struggle on the streets and markets.

Olgbondiyan condemned the failure to bring alleged perpetrators of violence and extra-judicial killing in the country to book.

He called for establishment of an Eminent Nigerian Group to administer the palliatives, while will eliminate all political and bureaucratic bottlenecks.

The spokesperson, however, called on Nigerians to remain calm and not despair over the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated challenges, noting that with the concerted effort of all, the nation will soon defeat the pandemic.
