In terms of the most liked Instagram post by a sportsperson, Lionel Messi has surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo, surpassing him both on and off the field.
Messi celebrated Argentina’s World Cup victory on Instagram on Sunday. A new record for a post by an athlete was achieved when the jubilant post earned more than 46 million likes.

The previous record was set by Cristiano Ronaldo’s tweet from before the World Cup, which featured a picture of Messi and him playing chess and had close to 42 million likes.

For a while now, Messi and Ronaldo have been surpassing each other’s records for the most liked social media postings. When Leo posted a picture of Argentina’s 2021 Copa America victory, it received nearly 22 million likes, breaking Ronaldo’s previous record. That was almost 18 months ago.
The 35-year-old will play in his next club match with Paris Saint-Germain on December 28 when they take on Strasbourg.
