Medical Health Workers Reassure Patients Not To Panic

There is a reassurance coming from the Nigerian medical health workers to their large population of their patients and relatives.

The health workers under the aegies of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Kaduna State Council, say Nigerians needing medical services should not lose sleep over rumoured withdrawal of services in the hospitals and other health centres.

This comes against the backdrop of rumours on social media that it plans to embark on a statewide strike.

But, in a statement addressed to the Head of Service of Kaduna State and signed by Sani Saulawa on behalf of the chairman, the health workers says the people should not lose sleep over the rumours.

“The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Kaduna State Council, has no plan whatsoever to embark on any strike action in the state,” the statement said, adding that there was nothing like a simmering medical workers strike.

It instead commended the Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for what it described as proactive policies and interventions aimed at improving the health sector.

It also listed the governor’s achievements to include the following:

i.                 the approval and implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS/CONMESS) for health workers across the state, including those under the State Primary Health Care Board.

ii.                the promotion and implementation of three years’ outstanding promotions,

iii.              the upgrading and renovation of 255 health facilities and general hospitals, as well as t

iv.              he supply of essential medical equipment to primary health care centres and general hospitals.

Other achievements which the union attributed to the current government in the state include

-the provision of ambulances to general hospitals to enhance referral services across the state, as well as

-the ongoing recruitment of 1,800 health professionals under the State Primary Health Care Board.

It said more than 90 per cent of the workforce under the board are members of MHWUN, and that there was no justification or intention to disrupt industrial harmony through any form of strike.

Assuring the government of its commitment to industrial peace, dialogue and continued cooperation, it urged the public to disregard the rumours of a planned strike.
