Man Utd’s Antony Assault Allegations May Scupper Sale Hopes

The current police inquiries into the Brazilian winger Antony may prevent Manchester United from selling the player for £85 million ($109 million).

After signing the 24-year-old from Ajax in an £85 million ($109 million) deal in 2022, United saw him as a marketable asset. Although The Telegraph reports that any potential sale would be in jeopardy due to investigations in Brazil and England, Antony has fallen short of expectations at Old Trafford and could be let go in the summer.

The Brazil international is being investigated by Greater Manchester Police and Sao Paulo Civil Police after Antony’s ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin made assault allegations against him. With great intensity, Antony has refuted the charges.

This season, Antony has made 29 appearances in all competitions; however, of the 22 Premier League games in which he has appeared, he has only started 11 of them. The winger’s lone goal and one assist came in the 4-2 FA Cup victory over Newport County, a fourth-tier outfit. According to a rumour from last month, the Red Devils are willing to let him go during the summer transfer window for a sizable loss.

United and Antony will be waiting to hear how the police’s probe into the winger is progressing. The Telegraph goes on to say that if he is cleared or the investigations are withdrawn, it will be simpler for United to sell him. Antony’s future may also depend on if head coach Erik ten Hag, who is now under criticism, stays at Old Trafford past the end of the season.
