Man United Have ‘Most Expensive Squad Ever’ As They Beat Real Madrid’ Record 

A recent UEFA report claims that the Manchester United team, which includes Antony and Jadon Sancho, was “the most expensive ever assembled” in football history.

According to the European Club Finances and Investment Landscape study, Erik ten Hag’s holdings will have a total value of £1.21 billion ($1.52 billion) at the conclusion of the 2023 fiscal year. This surpasses the record held since 2020 by Real Madrid, a legendary team valued at an estimated £1.13 billion ($1.42 million) in total.

The final 2023 total was significantly impacted by the additions of Antony and Sancho. After signing for £82 million ($103 million) in 2022, the Brazilian has yet to properly establish himself, and the England winger was recently loaned back to Borussia Dortmund due to his inability to live up to his £73 million ($92 million) contract. The experienced Casemiro, who cost United £70 million ($88 million) in 2022, and Harry Maguire, who cost £80 million ($100 million), were two more notable expenses. Maguire was signed back in 2019. When compared to United’s on-field results, the statistics are undoubtedly discouraging, as the Red Devils are still a long way from being able to contend for the Premier League and Champions League.

However, that report does not take into account United’s spending after the 2023 financial year, meaning £72m ($90m) Rasmus Hojlund, £55m ($69m) Mason Mount and £47m ($59m) Andre Onana are all omitted from that staggering total.

According to UEFA’s assessment, European powerhouse Real Madrid, Premier League rivals Manchester City and Chelsea, and United all have squad values for 2023 that exceed £1 billion ($1.26 billion). Todd Boehly’s Blues were recently informed that, should the appropriate player sales be approved, they might spend an additional £350 million ($439 million) in the upcoming window.
