A man has killed his neigbour and his goat because the animal strayed into his compound and ate up his dried yams.

Now, some neigbours are left wondering whether the dried yam is worth the lives of both the killed goat and its owner.

While the answer to that question hangs in the air, the Ogun State Police Command of the Nigeria police has swung into action, arresting the alleged culprit.

The alleged culprit, Kolawole Akinsanya, who is now in police protective custody conspired with others to beat his neigbour, Lukmon Ajibola to death.

The incident happened at Ilepa in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state, on Monday, February 5, according to Punch newspaper.

A resident who spoke anonymously said that Akinsanya was infuriated by the action of a goat belonging to the deceased, and which strayed into his compound, eating his dried yam.

He descended on the animal and killed it.

An argument however arose when Ajibola queried why it should be so, not knowing that that would also lead to his death.

“Ajibola rears goat to support his motorcycle business. It was around 4pm when one of his goats went into Akinsanya’s compound and ate the dried yams he spread in the compound. When he came out and saw the goat eating it, he picked up the kid and beat it to death.

“Since they were both neighbours on the same street, Ajibola approached him and questioned his action. This led to an argument and Akinsanya called some hoodlums numbering about three who came and descended on him. While they were beating him, they also poured alcohol into his ears. Residents who rushed to the scene found him lying motionless and he was taken to Zion Hospital in Ilepa for treatment and later referred to the State Hospital Otta on the third day. Unfortunately, he passed away at the State Hospital.”

The residents are in mourning even as the police has come to pick up Akinsanya.
