Obi will win

An ongoing crisis plaguing the Ogun State Chapter of the Labour Party took a worrying depth yesterday when the Director-General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Doyin Okupe was expelled from being a member.

Alongside Okupe, 10 others were alleged to have been expelled from the party too, citing the reasons were, failure to update membership status with dues, financial recklessness and high-handedness.

The Chairman of the party in Ogun State, Michael Ashade, announced the party’s decision in Abeokuta Thursday, saying the offences were a breach of the Labour Party’s constitution.

He said that Okupe had not paid his membership dues in the six months since he had joined the Party and that as a result, he had forfeited his membership in the Labour Party and was no longer qualified to serve as the Director General of Obi’s campaign council.

However, the party’s governorship candidate Mr. Kehinde Sogunle, called the incident a joke and asked Nigerians to ignore the rumour.

Sogunle said the party can no longer tolerate “jungle politics”, and disclosed that the real executive members of the party in Ogun State will meet today to take a decisive decision on the “rascality displayed by the renegades,” The Guardian disclosed.

Moreso, Yinusa Tanko, the Labour Party’s spokesman, disregarded Okupe’s dismissal stating,  the issue was an internal Ogun LP matter.
