Liverpool Owners Hold Face-To-Face Meeting With Michael Edwards

Liverpool is reportedly working harder to re-sign Michael Edwards, its former sporting director.

According to The Times, the Reds have already had in-person meetings with Edwards and his in an effort to entice him back and support the Merseyside giants as they navigate Jurgen Klopp’s departure from the organisation. According to the sources, Edwards met last weekend in Boston with Fenway Sports Group (FSG) owner John W. Henry and president Mike Gordon.

After terminating a ten-year relationship with Liverpool in 2022 and being instrumental in the club’s transition under Klopp, Edwards has turned down multiple approaches from teams, including Chelsea. As for Liverpool, he declined an original offer from FSG in January to return to his role as Liverpool’s sporting director, and if he accepts the invitation to come back, he likely expects full authority in a more senior role, like the head of football operations.

The Guardian reports that Edwards is expected to take charge of the recruiting and analytics departments. He would probably be in charge of choosing the next manager of Liverpool as well as any other new sporting director. The new football organisational structure for the club should start to take shape in the coming weeks.

With an eye on ending Klopp’s time at the club on a positive note, the Reds will be planning for the future while simultaneously attending to the here and now. The team’s next game is scheduled for Sunday, March 10, against Manchester City, another contender for the championship.
