Danny Murphy, a former Reds player, thinks Roberto De Zerbi is the ideal choice to succeed Jurgen Klopp as manager of Liverpool.

With a contract that lasts until 2026, it is unlikely that Klopp will leave Anfield very soon, but it would be unexpected if he lasted until that date.

The manager of Brighton has caught Murphy’s interest as a potential replacement for the Premier League and Champions League champion.

Although Murphy acknowledges that a lot can change in three years, the Italian has been very impressive with the Seagulls after making his reputation at Sassuolo, and De Zerbi appears to be the front-runner to take over at Anfield after Klopp leaves.

Murphy stated on talkSPORT, “I’ve got the answer, so I’m not worried about (Klopp leaving).” “De Zerbi is ideal, in my opinion,” When the time comes, he’ll be prepared to take charge.

“He appears like a strong character, plays excellent football, and is mastering his craft with Brighton in this division. There isn’t a better candidate that I can think of.

“Things change in football really quickly. So, the flavour of the month might be someone else this time next year,” said the former England international. “But I think he’s (De Zerbi) the real deal.

“There is something about him. After meeting him as well, (I can say) he’s got real gravitas. A real presence. And I love the way his teams play.

“But I can’t see Klopp going for some time yet. He’s got this new influx of players, and he seems enthused by Liverpool’s start (to the season) and the promising start of some of the new signings.”
