Prior to Saturday’s derby match against Everton, Liverpool has been handed a major boast as Cody Gakpo returned to training on Thursday.

The Netherlands international missed his team’s last two matches before the international period after he went off with a knee injury against Tottenham. The 24-year-old was subsequently left out of the Netherlands squad that lost 2-1 to France and beat Greece 1-0 in Euro 2024 qualifying over the last week.

The winger, however, rejoined his Reds teammates in training on Thursday after missing three weeks.

Jurgen Klopp will be happy to have him available for the Merseyside derby game against Everton because the Liverpool manager will be missing players like Thiago Alcantara and Andy Robertson due to injuries, and Curtis Jones is still on suspension, for the game at Anfield.

Gakpo has appeared in seven Premier League games this season, starting five of them and contributing two goals in the process.

Klopp’s men are fourth in the table heading into Saturday’s game and three points behind Tottenham and Arsenal.
