News has been making rounds of the Argentine-born football star, Lionel Messi set to leave the Paris-Saint-Germain (PSG) club next summer for Inter Miami.

Reports had it that Inter Miami is closing in on a move for Lionel Messi which will make him the highest-paid player in the history of the sport in the US.

In reaction to this news, Argentina captain Marcelo Mendez who doubles as Messi’s agent knocked down the rumors that his client is close to doing so.

Mendez stated the rumours to be ‘fake news’.

“It’s false,” Mendez told CNN when asked about the reports. “It’s fake news.

“There is no negotiation for Lionel to join Inter Miami next season.”

Mendez denied it, however, Inter Miami is still a strong candidate to land Messi because he already has a home there and has visited frequently with his family.

According to Mail Online, the club are already thought to be identifying players who will fit with the forward’s style of play with former Barcelona team-mates Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas under consideration.

Inter Miami are managed by Beckham’s former Manchester United team-mate Phil Neville, who has just signed a contract extension.
