‘Like A League Two Player’ – Keane Blasts Haaland After Arsenal Draw

Erling Haaland, Manchester City forward, came under fire from Roy Keane on Sunday for his lacklustre performance in the 0-0 draw against Arsenal.

The striker struggled yesterday as Arsenal silenced him throughout the match between the Premier League’s top contenders. The Norwegian’s overall play, according to Keane, is a major shortcoming; it is comparable to that of a player who should be playing in the fourth division of English football.

The former midfielder said on Sky Sports: “The levels of his general play is so poor. Not just today, I think his laying stuff off, headers, whatever it might be – in front of goal he’s the best in the world – but for his general play for such a player it is so poor… he has to improve that. He’s almost like a League Two player, that’s the way I look at him. His general play has to improve, and it will do over the next few years.”

During the match, Keane wasn’t the only former Manchester United star to trash Haaland. Gary Neville, who was co-commentating the game, scoffed at the attacker after he squandered a fantastic opportunity to connect with the ball. According to Neville, Haaland appeared to have “never played football before”.

Keane’s comments may be seen as the latest instalment of a feud that has dragged on between the ex-Manchester United star and the Haaland family. Haaland’s dad, Alf-Inge, injured Keane’s cruciate ligament in a match between Leeds and United in 1997. Years later, Keane’s harsh tackle on Haaland senior is said to have contributed to the end of the latter’s career, and the Republic of Ireland hero admitted in an autobiography that the challenge was premeditated.

Haaland, who has not scored for his team in three games, will be looking to get back into his scoring groove when City plays Aston Villa in their upcoming Premier League encounter. A point behind Arsenal and three behind Liverpool, City is presently positioned third in the standings.
