Life Mentally Hard At Barcelona, Says Memphis Depay

As he prepares to contribute to the Netherlands‘ World Cup campaign, Memphis Depay spoke candidly about his difficult start to the season at Barcelona.

 

Due to injury issues, Memphis has had a rough start to the club season. He did, however, play a cameo for the Netherlands during their 2-0 victory over Senegal in their World Cup debut.

Addressing reporters, the Dutch man said, “I am very happy to play again, i have needed a long time to reappear. It hasn’t been easy mentally, but I’ve worked hard to get there and I’ve played half an hour. It’s a step. It’s incredible to play football again.

 

“We have a good team that can prove things. I don’t want to think about the past, I’m focused on the World Cup. I also don’t want to think beyond this competition. I don’t know what will happen after the World Cup.”

The Netherlands’ second goal on Monday night came as a result of Memphis’, albeit soft, shot forcing Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy into a miscue.

The attacker hasn’t had much success in the last 18 months, but he will be hoping things turn around in the near future so he can assist his country win the World Cup.

On November 25, the Netherlands face Ecuador, and the forward hopes to be well enough to start. Both teams won their opening game by a score of 2-0, which made the match extremely crucial because it may determine how the group would be arranged.
