A lady has narrated the harrowing experience of watching her father, mother and brother burn to death, while she could do nothing to save them.

This happened in the aftermath of the tragic airstrike in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State, she stated in an interview she granted BBC Hausa service.

“I saw them burning—my mother, my father, and my three younger brothers”, she said anonymously, referring to her father, mother, and four younger siblings.

A Nigerian military warplane targeting alleged insurgents,, had allegedly carried out an airstrike in the area on Tuesday which however, allegedly claimed the lives of 10 civilians.

Six other people were injured and about 100 animals including cattle, donkeys, camels and cattle were killed

The report also quoted one Usman Manuga stating: “After the Fajr (early morning) prayer, we noticed planes flying overhead. Moments later, bombs were dropped, and everything went up in flames.”

The report also quoted Chairman of the Silame Local Government, Abubakar Muhammad, as saying that two warplanes struck the villages of Gidan Bisa and Runtuwa, leading to casualties.

“The attacks were relentless, and it took the intervention of the state government to halt them. Both the Air Force and ground forces participated in the operation,” he said.

“This situation was destined to happen. The officials acted with the intention of protecting this community. However, we will ensure a thorough investigation is conducted to prevent such incidents in the future,” he said.

Watching entire members of her family wiped out it was said, would leave the lady in trauma for some time to come.
