Following the U.S. victory on Sunday, USMNT standout Gio Reyna was voted the CONCACAF Nations League’s best player, taking home the Golden Ball.

Reyna won the Golden Ball after helping the USMNT defeat Mexico on Sunday night. However, his real valiant efforts were in the semifinal match against Jamaica, where he recorded two assists in extra time, both of which went to Haji Wright.

Reyna has struggled at the club level, but his efforts in the Nations League have shown that he is still a crucial member of Gregg Berhalter’s team.

Reyna entered the U.S. camp out of form and with just 39 minutes in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest since leaving Borussia Dortmund on loan in January. He didn’t play like it, though, and he probably accepted his place on the 23-man roster for the Copa America this summer.

Reyna has contributed five goals to the USMNT’s three finals. In terms of men’s basketball history, that is TWO MORE than ANY other player.

The United States will now turn its attention to the Copa America this summer, when they will compete in the group stage against Uruguay, Bolivia, and Panama. However, there will be a series of international friendlies in June against Brazil and Colombia, CONMEBOL rivals.
