Jurgen Klopp Confirms Luiz Diaz Return Date After Six Months Out

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Luis Diaz will make his long-awaited return from injury in the Reds’ Premier League clash with Leeds.

The Colombian winger, who represents his country at the international level, has been sidelined for the past six months due to a knee issue. On October 9, he last played in a competitive match, a 3-2 loss at Arsenal. Although being left out of the matchday squad for a return match against Arsenal on Sunday, Diaz has made a welcome return to training on Merseyside and is expected to participate in some capacity in a match against relegation-threatened Leeds at Elland Road on April 17.

Klopp has said of Diaz, while also welcoming the return of Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara from his two-month stint on the treatment table: “For Thiago it’s super-important that he has a few training sessions on top of the few he had, Luis Diaz will be back in full and normal team training and available for the game [vs Leeds] so these things are really, really good news.”

In an exciting 2-2 tie with Arsenal at Anfield, Thiago came off the bench to play for 30 minutes. Four goals were scored throughout that match, as well as an elbow on Andy Robertson by an assistant referee, Mohamed Salah missing a penalty, and late drama that might have seen the Reds take the victory.

Liverpool are happy to get several of its important players back, but the Merseyside giants’ 2022–23 season is in risk of fizzling out as they continue to sit eighth in the Premier League table with nine games remaining, with major championships already out of reach.
