Jim Ratcliffe Opens Door To Greenwood Man Utd Return

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has opened the door to the possibility of Mason Greenwood returning to Manchester United after completing his minority takeover.

Ratcliffe has finally paid £1.25 billion ($1.57 billion) for a 25% ownership in United, which he received in return for taking command of the football team’s operations. Greenwood, who is presently on loan at Getafe and hasn’t played for United since his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of attempted rape and other accusations, will face a new decision from the club, he claimed in his first interview after finalising the contract. Later, the accusations against him were all dropped.

“He’s a Manchester United footballer so we are in charge of football,” Ratcliffe told outlets including The Athletic. “So the answer is yes, we have to make decisions. There is no decision that’s been made. The process will be: understand the facts not the hype and then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values which is basically is he a good guy or not, and answer could he play sincerely for Manchester United well and would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it.”

Following a fierce outcry from supporters when their plans to bring Greenwood back were disclosed, United’s former chief executive Richard Arnold ultimately opted against reintegrating him into the team last summer. It was anticipated that Greenwood would never again play for United following that decision. Since then, the striker has been working with Getafe to restart his career.
