For their deeds at Effurun in Delta State, an Assistant Superintendent of the Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman and four other officers have been duly sanctioned by the Police Service Commission, PSC.
They four had been facing charges in connection with the alleged killing of Mr. Mene Ogidi, 28, in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26, 2026
The PSC has now ratified their sanction: a dismissal
In a statement yesterday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, Force Headquarters said the decision followed the conclusion of internal disciplinary proceedings and takes immediate effect.
According to him, the case file has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF} for vetting and prosecution.
“Findings established that ASP Nuhu Usman and members of his team engaged in professional misconduct, abuse of office, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, culminating in the unlawful killing of Mr. Mene Ogidi.”
Stating the point that every suspect was entitled to due process, the police PRO added no suspicion, however serious, justifies extra-judicial action.
This is even as the police holds that instead of following due procedure, ASP Nuhu Usman shot and killed the already apprehended suspect.
He said their deeds at Effurun were therefore not acceptable even as he confirmed that the driver who delivered the parcel and two vigilante members linked to the incident remain at large, adding that tactical teams have been deployed to arrest them.

He also assured the public that the police would not shield its men who go against the law.
According to the police, Ogidi had received a parcel from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, which he later took to a motor park in Effurun for onward delivery to Sapele.
It was members of the public that arrested him and alerted the police when he was searched and the parcel found to contain a fabricated Beretta pistol and four rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The Police alleged that instead of following due procedure, ASP Nuhu Usman shot and killed the already apprehended suspect.
