Itele – Peaceful Neighbourhood In Need Of Gov Abiodun’s Attention

Itele – peaceful neighbourhood no doubt, but there is more to this rural Ogun town, than meets the eye,
Located in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Itele boasts of new sites that attracts people to keep coming, their mission being to buy lands and build houses.
Itele is still a developing area, and thus a conducive place for living. This is in the sense that its environments is still peaceful and houses are not so expensive compared to those in Lagos.
However, the Lafenwa-itele road, as well as Ayetoro road are in a very bad states, with countless numbers of potholes that make commuting on them, a danger.
On these, several pleas had gone to the Governor of Ogun State , Dapo Aboidun to do something about Itele roads but to no avail.
Due to this, the roads keep keep getting worse by day.
The Sunday Guardian Magazine of July 14, 2019 for example, published a story on the Lafenwa/Itele/Ayetoro road, highlighting the plight of residents commuting the roads, yet, nothing has been done.
The Nation newspaper also published a report, alerting that the roads were getting worse by the day, especially during the rainy season; and not even that has attracted the right attention of the authorities.
Because of the bad road terrain in Itele, it is a common sight to see bike riders throw their passengers into the mud.
That is aside the regular breakdown of vehicles plying Itele roads.
Although, there is no stable electricity yet, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) which regulates and provide electricity to the residents of Itele says it plans getting a prepaid metre for them, while assuring stable electricity.
Already, the residents are making frantic efforts to get more transformers just in case.

In the midst of all these however, there is anxiety amongst the residents, of the increasing presence of Hausas within the midst. They constitute major operators of commercial bikes in the town and the residents are not sure this won’t work against them in the nearest future.

In an interview with one of Nigerian institute of journalism Timileyine akinade said that believe there is covid l. He said the lockdown affected his study and cost of goods in the market.
He didn’t believe that malaria cannot be transmitted so malaria cannot be the symptoms of covid.
According to Mrs Adebisi Ronke a market woman said she believe that there is covid because of the news she heard on television. She said the lockdown affected her market because they add money to price to Lyon she is selling.
She doubt malaria can ever be a symptoms because malaria has been of existence before covid started.
Many Nigerians gloat that Covid-19 is mainly targeting the country’s elite, particularly politicians, despite warnings that the life-threatening respiratory illness could hit the poor as well.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has recorded more than 600 cases since the end of February – most of them people who had been abroad, and those they had interacted with after their return to Africa’s most-populous state, which has a population of about 200 million.

Doctors frequently embark on strikes over salaries not paid for months.
Many of them seize every opportunity to work abroad – nearly 2,000 of the doctors in the UK’s state-run National Health Service qualified in Nigeria , according to a report presented to the UK’s parliament last year.
Nigerians spent more than $1bn ($800m) on treatment in overseas hospitals in 2013.

President Buhari promised to end “medical tourism” when he took power in 2015, but he himself spent more than four months in London in 2017 getting treatment for an undisclosed illness and subsequently returning to the UK capital for additional care.
But with borders closed and each country haunted by its own Covid-19 nightmare, Nigeria’s pubilc figures,in the likes of politicians and other infuciental personnels are now forced to use their country’s hospitals, prompting a stream of taunts and jokes.
“This is your punishment for not investing in your country’s health system,” some say.
“I thought our hospitals were not good enough for you,” others say.

Some Nigerians also hoped that the “selectiveness” of the virus might be God’s way of bringing about changes in their government.
They latched on to rumours that Mr Buhari, 72, had been infected by his chief of staff, and was gravely ill on a ventilator.
The less malicious folk shrouded their great hope in a prayer: “Let God’s will be done.”
‘God pulled a fast one’
Indignant at the expressions of ill willed towards his boss, presidential spokesman Femi Adesina said: “Why do some people conjure nothing but evil? In 2017, while President Buhari had his medical challenge, they were on an orgy of negative wishes, misinformation, and disinformation.
“But God pulled a fast one on them. He brought the president back. Haven’t they learned their lessons?”
The rumours finally ended after Mr Buhari – looking well – was videoed in a meeting with senior health officials.

Construction Of Road In Dopemu.
I am Udochukwu, a resident in Dopemu.
Am writing to you to raise the issue people face in my locality due to bad condition of road.
The road leading to Dopemu from Sule Street in Mangoro &Cement area is so congested throughout the day. Road users applies here due to too much traffic along Oshodi Abeokuta Express road.
It is the main alternative route but there are potholes everywhere on the road; mainly during the morning hours people are facing horrible situations when they are going to their workplace.
Public School and shopping complex are situated on this road so, students, parents and businessmen get tired as they are stuck here very often in traffic.
Over two years now, government have not make effort to improve the condition of the road.
Dear Sir, I want to draw the attention of the Lagos state government and the local community Development Association (LCDA) to do the needful for the betterment of the people, businessmen as well as the government.
I request you to highlight it through your world wide newspaper. So the government will take necessary action to improve the road condition.

Market women at Mangoro Ikeja area of Lagos State have called on government over bad conditions of roads.
The chairlady of the market, Mrs Dolapo Olabisi made these statement on a recent letter issued to CDA chairman in the area Mr. Johnson Peter and the Ikeja local government. She Issued this while presenting their end of the year gift to him on Tuesday December 15, 2020.
Olabisi who speaks with our correspondent yesterday, complained bitterly on behalf of the members said the major entrance into the market is too bad. she said, the condition of the road hiders vehicles from entry into the market. to deliver goods. All vehicles discharges goods at far distance costing the owners extra expenses.
According to her, she has raised the issues to the CDA meeting where they promised to do something till date.
She said, condition have cost them alot even led to most of them losing customers.
The chairlady said “we are calling on CDA and Ikeja local government on a more serious note to take necessary actions because they do pay all bills coming to them from local government”.
All effort put through to reach the CDA and chairman was abortive as his contact was not available as at the time of filing these report.
