‘Instead, I Have Been Coming Here To Settle Their Matrimonial Disputes. Those were the words of the Ward Head of the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Alhaji Muhammad Attahiru,

He was reacting to his role in the broken story of an 11 year old boy chained down for two years by his father and stepmother.

He added: “In spite of my untireless effort in making sure that the area remains peaceful , and I was not aware of the incident until when the suspects were arrested.

“I had been coming to the frontage of the house to settle their matrimonial disputes as the man has three wives”, he said

Alhaji Muhammad Attahiru, finished off by saying that he was not aware of the fact the family had a boy they had chained down for two years.

He cashed on the opportunity to appeal to residents to report any suspicious move or person to the appropriate authority for further action.

Recall our earlier story showing that shortly after visiting the boy at the hospital, the Special Adviser to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu on Women Affairs, Hajiya Zara’u Wali, described the development as unfortunate and shocking.

 “Now the boy is in the hospital and responding to treatment courtesy of the state government under the able leadership of Gov. Atiku Bagudu,” she said.

She said that the state government would not relent in its efforts to ensure that all the necessary needs of the victim would be taken care of.

She warned that any parents who committed similar act would not be condoned by the government while calling on parents to take of their wards’ responsibilities.

The Eagle investigations show additional reports on the boy indicating he, not only fed on goat fed but sometimes on his own faeces.

And the National Human Rights Commission’s Barrister Hamza Attahiru Wala was quoted saying they actually found Jirbil inside a goat shelter,

 “We met him eating faceces… dried animal faeces and even his own because he was chained. They were just treating him as insane. He was only mingling with animals and could not even talk,” Wala said.

This is in addition to his parents’ claim that he was suffering from epilepsy and was insane.
