Insecurity: “We Aren’t Pulling Down On Buhari’s Impeachment”

The National Assembly has not abandoned President Muhammadu Buhari’s impeachment from office, according to Mr. Okwudili Ezenwankwos, who is a member of the House of Representatives and represents the Orumba North/South Federal Constituency.

Buhari’s impeachment, according to Ezenwankwo, is still planned unless the president finds a long-term solution to the nation’s current problems with unemployment, poverty, and insecurity.

On Tuesday, the legislator made this statement during the opening of a legal office owned by Chief Clifford Okoye, a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Aguata branch, in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The lawmakers would reconvene in September to evaluate the ultimatum handed to Buhari, said to Ezenwankwo, who noted that NASS was now on break.

According to him, “The issue of impeachment served on Buhari is a serious thing, because security of life and property is the primary assignment of any responsible government and which the President has failed to provide.

“What we are doing now is to make sure that we fix the country. If the President is not ready to bring security challenges to an end, we are ready to remove him.

“But if we see serious effort on the part of the President and his men to tackle insecurity, on our resumption, we would not go ahead with the impeachment, but so long as the insecurity continues, we would not hesitate to impeach the president.”

He continued by saying that the South-East should be given the chance to elect the country’s next president in 2023 if Nigeria were a nation that valued justice and fairness.

Speaking on the ongoing ASUU strike, the legislator said that because it was solely an executive matter, the National Assembly had not gotten involved. She added that the Federal Government should take all necessary steps to ensure that the strike is called off as soon as feasible.

“Based on justice, equity and fairness, the South-East should be given the opportunity to produce the President in 2023.

“On the current ASUU strike, we have to be careful in handling it, so that our children will go back to school. It is very important. We should not play politics with it. It is unacceptable,” he added.
