The Onicha Ngwa community in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state is yet to come to grips with how alleged infidelity could make a man set his wife and children ablaze.

40 year old Mr. Udochi Amala who resides in Amapuihe village in Osisioma Local Government, allegedly set himself, his wife, Mrs. Amarachi Amala, and their three children on fire, citing suspicion of alleged infidelity by his wife.

Though narrowly escaping the fire, Udochi, has scars on his body to tell the story, even as his attempt to flee the scene was aborted by villagers.

The incident which occurred between 1am and 2am on Saturday, led to the death of one of his daughters.

“I have an issue with my wife, and I did not know that it would get to this extent. I am tired of this life”, Udochi was quoted to have said afterwards.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said: “Yes, the Police are aware. Investigation is ongoing.”

In its reaction, The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Abia State branch, condemned the incident.

A statement signed by FIDA Chairperson there, Njideka Aniawonwa, and Secretary, Eberechukwu Kanu Oji, on expressed described the act as a gross violation of human rights and dignity.
