INEC Lagos Office Upbeat With Arrival Of Special Police Team

The Lagos office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was upbeat with activities today, further heightened with the arrival of special police team.

A competent source who happened by when the detachment arrived told our correspondent reported sighting at least two dozen policemen.

“They were well dressed with their equipment and everybody was sure they had been particularly sent to monitor Saturday’s election”, the source said.

According to her, the policemen who looked adorable, oozed infectious excitement with some of them backslapping and exchanging warm pleasantries.

“It was just this evening and many people on their way paused awhile to observe them offloading some of their equipment:, the source added.

The Eagle reports that the commission, had yesterday said the 2023 general election would hold with money playing less role and the arrival of the special police team may be part way of assuring that.

It said Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections would be held without bags of money.

Speaking at a National Roundtable on the Roadmap to a Credible and Violence Free 2023 General Elections organised in Port Harcourt by Equity International Initiative, EII, he assured a free and fair election, especially with the monetary policy embarked upon by the Federal Government.

“I assure you that the election is going to be free and fair. There will be no vote buying. It is going in tandem with our plans with stakeholders.

“There will be no money to buy votes. We are going to experience an election without vote buying. There will be no money to buy votes.”
