Incoming Chelsea Boss Maresca Set To Target 3 Key Position

Following his appointment as Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca has made public his top three transfer targets.

As Mauricio Pochettino prepares to step down as Chelsea’s manager, Maresca has agreed to a £10 million ($12.8 million) compensation package with Leicester that includes five coaching staff members, according to the Daily Telegraph. The Spaniard has already held discussions with sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley while on vacation, which has resulted in key positions in the transfer market being reviewed. Maresca appears to be prioritising finding a custodian, left back and forward.

The Blues have lacked a focal point up front since Diego Costa left the club in 2017, while neither Djordje Petrovic or Robert Sanchez appears to be a convincing starting goalkeeper for a club with Chelsea’s ambitions. As for left-back, vice-captain Ben Chilwell has missed a considerable amount of football due to injury.

Managing Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad gave Maresca his first taste of managing, as he led the team to the Premier League 2 championship in 2020–21. He returned to the team as Pep Guardiola’s assistant first-team coach for the 2022–2023 triple season after a stint with Parma.

The amount of change and overhaul Chelsea has experienced since Todd Boehley’s group emerged victorious in the 2022 takeover process makes some continuity in the project essential. Even though Pochettino is no longer in charge, Maresca is entering a structure that should enhance rather than further disrupt the foundation that has been established in recent months.
