Igbo Groups Set To Converge Over 2023 Polls In Umuahia

The fourth edition of an international Christmas retreat, which will take place in Umuahia on December 28, will bring together the Igbo Think Tank, Nzuko Ndigbo, and other Igbo groups in the diaspora to make decisions about the 2023 elections.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) G5 members, clergy, traditional leaders, business executives, student leaders, youth and women leaders are also anticipated at the event.

The retreat’s organisers promised that at the gathering, a decision about the Igbo in the general elections in 2023 would be made and a communiqué would be released.

The Trustee of the Igbo Think Tank, Maduike Ezeibe, Chairman of Local Organizing, Chuks Ibegbu, and leader, Nzuko Ndigbo, respectively, revealed these while speaking to journalists in Umuahia. They said: “The Igbo should be given the 1999 settlement which calmed the tension in the country.”

The procedures that produced former president Olusegun Obasanjo, who calmed the June 12 commotion, should be used in 2023, according to Ezeibe, who is recognized for inventing medications for treating HIV.

“We know what happened in 1999. Our brother, Ekwueme formed the PDP, but Obasanjo was brought out from the prison and made the president under an arrangement to calm the tension in the West.”

He emphasized that the Ndigbo have made significant sacrifices for the country by residing in and improving whatever location they find themselves, and that it was time for the country to show its appreciation for their dedication.

The Igbo would also use the event, which will take place at Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, to choose who to support in the general election in 2023.

Ndigbo, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow is the theme of the International Christmas Retreat, with “Ndigbo in Geo Politics of Nigeria, the Case of 2023” as the sub-theme.

The event’s organisers announced that eminent Igbo scholars like Chris Osuagwu, Maduike Ezeibe, Obasi Igwe, and Elochukwu Amucheazi would present lectures on the future of the Igbo.
