I Have Never Seen This Kind Of Destruction Before; those were the words of Mr Peter Obi Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

He had just flew into Bayelsa via a chopper, only to be confronted by a massive destruction and displacement of people caused by rampaging floods of the last three weeks.

I  have been to other places, and I have never seen this kind of destruction.

“The Federal Government needs to declare an emergency in Bayelsa State. No State can cope with such a disaster on its own”, he said..

He said the disaster had passed a dimension that an individua state could handle and that as result, the federal government should step in and help the state.

Obi, on getting into Yenagoa, was received by Governor Diri, who later expressed appreciation for the Labour Party presidential candidate, in  coming.

The Eagle reports that Bayelsa had seen the worse of floods in the last three weeks, that have left severe consequences.

Aside massive destructions, many people are now taking shelter in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, and that was where Obi went straight to immediately upon touching Government House.

“I  have been to other places, and I have never seen this kind of destruction.

“The Federal Government needs to declare an emergency in Bayelsa State. No State can cope with such a disaster on its own.

“I also appeal to the international community and donor agencies to support the affected states. Here in Bayelsa, we need help. This destruction is unimaginable,” he said.

Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Speaker of, the State House of Assembly, Hon. Michael Ogbere, other state lawmakers, commissioners and other top government functionaries, were in the company of the governor when he received Obi.

The devastation of the flood were such that people’s houses, farm land, fish farms and business outlets were destroyed.

Mr Peter Obi remains a strong contender in the country’s general elections next year.
