A UK-based Nigerian legal practitioner, Baron Chymaker, says he has formally begun the process of renouncing his Nigerian citizenship.
Chymaker said his lawyer in Nigeria had confirmed that his application had been submitted to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, alongside the required fees.
He disclosed this in a post on X on Thursday.
“I have today received a confirmation from my lawyer in Nigeria that my application to renounce my Nigerian citizenship has been submitted to the SGF and all fees paid as appropriate. I cannot wait for the approval,” he wrote.

Procedure and Requirements for Renunciation of Nigeria Citizenship
Submission of formal application letter to the Ministry of Interior;
Obtain the prescribed application form or renunciation citizenship (form G) from the Ministry or online by visiting https://ecitibiz.interior.gov.ng/ and attach the documents listed below for the processing of the application:
- Formal application letter for renunciation;
- Payment of processing fee of ₦20,000.00 only (generate online)
- Birth certificate
- Local Government/State indigeneship letter;
- Two (2) passport photographs;
- Sworn oath of renunciation by high court or magistrate court;
- Scanned copy of the applicant’s Nigerian international passport;
- A letter from the country whose citizenship is being sought affirming that the applicant will be given citizenship upon renunciation of Nigerian citizenship; and
- Payment of ₦50,000.00 upon approval of request
