HURIWA Blasts Buhari To Resign If Presidency Is Tough

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), a civil rights advocacy group, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to resign immediately if the position is tough for him.

In a statement released on Tuesday, HURIWA urged the President to step down in order to lessen the harm his “gross ineptitude and dereliction of duty would cause the country if he went on until May 29th 2023.”

His seven years in office were “tough,” he said, adding that he was “eager to go” in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

During the celebrations for Eid el-Kabir, he said this while hosting lawmakers, political leaders, and some governors of the All Progressives Congress at his home in Daura, Katsina State.

As the protest entered its fifth month, Buhari also urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities to take into account the plight of the nation’s future generations.

However, HURIWA criticized the President’s call on ASUU, claiming that “the administration bears the largest chunk of the blame for totally abandoning public tertiary institutions because the children of the President, Governors, Senators, ministers, and heads of government agencies are all enrolled in foreign educational institutions; including the ugly scenario that the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly lived in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the better part of a decade.”

“Following the admission by President Muhammadu Buhari that the Presidency is tough and that he is eager to go, a call has gone to President Muhammadu Buhari, from the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria to be honest enough to resign now to minimise the damage his crass incompetence and gross dereliction of duty would cost the Country if he stayed on till May 29th 2023,” the statement further read.

HURIWA warned Buhari to act like a statesman by resigning from office immediately to avert worse disasters that lie in wait for the country if his rudderless administration continues its infamy, impunity, and lawlessness.
