How Students Threw 48 Hour Party To Mark End Of Semester

For the students, there was no better way to celebrate the end of the demanding academic programme that they had come to run than a 48 hour party.

On the one hand, it was all in recognition of what they were able to achieve studying for a Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) programme in Mass Communication at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ).

On the other hand,  the 48 hour party is understood given that many of them were encountering Mass Communication the first time, and successfully going through its daunting demands at the NIJ was something worth celebrating.

The Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma(HND) students came up with different social events within and outside school premises after their second semester last paper on the 10th of October.

There were games of different kinds, with most final semester students adorning white vests on which friends scripted messages of their choice.

The wearing of white T-shirts and calling for signings on it had become a ritual each final semester in the school.  The students believed that anyone who appends his or signature on the T-shirts wanted to be remembered so most of the students took turns to do this.

It was also an emotional period for some of the students as they could not hold back their tears while hugging and snapping away different poses with colleagues and lecturers.

The Postgraduates students on the other hand organised a two-day event to celebrate the completion of their study, this held on October 10 and 11, a school part first beginning first immediately they dropped their final paper.

There were lots of food to eat, drinks, and games, and the  day’s MC was the popular KSB of Rainbow FM, who was supported by Tarry and Esohe the famous bloggers.

Their events gained a lot of attention as some of the school lecturers were also entertained specially. Some of the games played included picking or selecting someone to do something for you, choosing your dream partner, choose a gift partner and other interesting games.

A fruit tree which carried the logo of the institute (NIJ) was sited in front of the library which was paid for by one of Postgraduates students.

Another stand was for barbecue and grilled chicken, food and drinks stand, Cakes and gifts were also shared amongst the post graduate students which made the event stand out.

The second day of 48 hour party saw the students proceed to Tarkwa bay beach, and the event which started around 12pm did not end until late in the night. The boat cruise from CMS bus-stop to the beach added more colour to the event for the students.
