How Nigeria’s 5,660 Km Gas Pipeline To Benefit Over 340 Million People

The Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP), according to Amina Benkhadra, director general of Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), will benefit more than 340 million people.

According to the Moroccan News Agency, Benkhadra said, “This enormous project that runs through 13 countries would have a direct positive influence on more than 340 million people.”

“All the countries that the pipeline will cross through will be included in the study and development of this project.”

The project, which is still in the stage of thorough engineering studies, is thought to help the development of the integrated northwest African region, according to the director general.

The project, she continued, intends to exploit sustainable energy, promote a competitive regional electricity market, and support the industrial and economic growth of every nation it passes through.

According to Benkhadra, this will be accomplished through developing a number of industries, including mining, industry, and exporting gas to Europe.

“The length of the gas pipeline will be about 5,660 kilometres, and its cost has been set.
“It will be established in several stages to respond to the increasing need of the countries through which it will cross and Europe, during the next 25 years.”

The (NMGP) project is an offshore and onshore gas pipeline project with the objective of delivering natural gas supplies from Nigeria to Morocco via West and North Africa.
